Many ask us “Why should we buy handcrafted soap?  The soap in the store is much cheaper!”  Well, there are several reasons we feel everyone should use handcrafted soap.

At Hidden Creek Acres, we are trying to live a natural life.  One day, while shopping for soap, I was looking for something new to try since my skin was so dry.  I began to notice that everything was labeled beauty bars, body bars, or moisturizing bars. Nothing was labeled “soap”.  I headed home to investigate why.  As it turns out, they are not labeled as soap because they are not soap.  These commercial products are actually detergents that are filled with harshchemicals.   While trying to live a healthy, natural lifestyle, we were bathing with the very chemicals that we were trying to avoid.

Commercial made bars are made with chemical additives and/or synthetic detergents.  These additives and detergents dry out the skin, create rashes and other irritations, and may be harmful to health. When natural ingredients are used in a commercial bar, the quantities are too small to be truly beneficial. Their advertising may suggest a more natural product, but the ingredient label will show that the bar is still primarily composed of synthetic ingredients.

The ingredients on a popular commercial beauty bar reads:

Sodium Lauroyl Isethionate, Stearic Acid, Sodium Tallowate Or Sodium Palmitate,
Lauric Acid, Sodium Isethionate, Water, Sodium Stearate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine,
Sodium Cocoate Or Sodium Palm Kernelate, Fragrance, Sodium Chloride,
Tetrasodium Edta, Tetrasodium Etidronate, Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891).

Whereas, the ingredients on Hidden Creek Acres’ soaps are very simple to read:

Aloe, Fresh Goat's Milk or Beer, Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Rice Bran Oil,
Shea Butter, Sodium Hydroxide, Sustainable Palm Oil, Castor Oil,
and then either Essential Oils or Fragrance Oil, Charcoal, Clay, Micas, and/or Titanium Dioxide.
Since commercially-made bars cannot legally use the term “soap” because they are made with synthetic detergents, they instead, call them beauty bars, cleaning bars, moisturizing bars, or something similar.  Whereas we make soap at Hidden Creek Acres, not beauty bars, body bars, or moisturizing bars, but actual soap.  Soap filled with simple, natural ingredients, not harsh chemicals or detergents.  We have spent years researching what makes a good bar of soap and perfecting our techniques, and we continue to do so.  We take pride in the recipes we have developed for our soaps.  Depending on which soap we are making, we use either aloe along with fresh goat’s milk or beer as the liquid and then add skin nourishing oils and butters in our soaps.  We then scent our soaps with either therapeutic grade essential oils or high quality fragrance oils formulated for soaps from the most respected suppliers in the industry.

Hidden Creek Acres’ Handcrafted soap naturally contains glycerin soap naturally contains glycerin. Glycerin is a humectant that attracts moisture and softens your skin. Glycerin is not added to handcrafted soap, rather, it is naturally created in the process of mixing water, oils, and butters. In handcrafted soap, the glycerin is left in place. However, in commercially-made bars, the glycerin is thought to be valuable, and so it is extracted for use in other more profitable, moisturizing products. The absence of glycerin is
another reason that commercial bars dry out the skin.

When formulating our body butter, we wanted one that was full of skin loving oils, butters, and extracts that would leave our skin feeling soft.  The body butter needed to be thick and a little needed to go a long way. Numerous batches of “nice, but I don’t love
it” later, we finally hit on a formula that we loved.  After receiving rave reviews from a group of testers, our skin-loving Body Butter is now in production and is quickly gaining a following.

We take pride in our products and enjoy hearing what you have to say about them.  Please leave a review or send us an email ~ .
